Dhaka- The prizes of the Saif PowerTec 2nd International Rating Chess Tournament was distributed here on Monday.Director General of Rapid Action Battalion and President of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) Benazir Ahmed distributed the prizes among winners of A and B categories of the tournament at a ceremony at the conference room of National Sports Council here.Director of the meet’s sponsor Saif Powertec Ltd Tarafder Mohammad Ruhul Saif was present as a special guest at the function presided by chairman of the tournament committee KM Shahidullah. BCF General Secretary Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim delivered the welcome speech. GM Ziaur Rahman, GM Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib, WIM Rani Hamid and event’s Chief Arbiter M Haroon-Or-Rashid also spoke on the occasion.Tournament’s champion IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin and runner-up GM Ziaur Rahman received prize money of Tk 87,500 each. Third place holder IM Abu Sufian Shakil and 4th ranked FM M.Taibur Rahman got Tk 40,000 each.Tournament’s 5th ranked GM Enamul Hossain Razib, 6th ranked FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman received Tk 17,500 each.Seven players from 7th to 13th places –WIM Shamima Akter Liza, GM Mollah Abdullah Al Rakib, SM Sharon, M Sharif Hossain, FM Mohammed Abdul Malek, Subrota Biswas and Uten — got Tk 8,500 eachIn category ‘B, champion Feroz Ahmed received Tk 40,000, runner-up Abdul Momin Tk 25,000 while 3rd to 7th position holders — WIM Rani Hamid, WFM Sharmin Sultana Shirin, Shafiqul Islam, Shahidul Islam and Anisuzzaman Jewel — received Tk 8,200 each.Seven players from 8th to 14th position — Mohammad Zakaria, M Sariatullah, Kaushik Chowdhury, Tipu Sultan, Avik Sarker, Aminul Islam and Mohammad Hasan — got Tk 3,143 each.A record 306 players, including three grandmasters, two international masters, one woman international master and one Indian rated player, participated in the category ‘A’ while 265 more players, including one woman international master and two woman FIDE masters, four Indian rated players and two Irish rated players participated in Category ‘B’ of the event which ended on Sunday.Both the Category A and B events of the tournament were held in nine-round Swiss-League System that offered prize money of Tk 5 lakh.UNB news agency
