Over 400 Hindus Rakhine refugees cross into BD

Cox’s Bazar, Aug 31 – Amid growing concern over the Rohingya influx into Bangladesh following a fresh spell of persecution in the Rakhine state of Myanmar, it’s been found that Hindu residents of the area have also been fleeing to Bangladesh in search of security.Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi officer M Mainuddin said some 412 residents of Hindu community in Rakhine state reached Kutupalong Rohingya camp on Wednesday night crossing the border illegally.
They will be provided safety and security as residents along with some other facilities, the UNO added.
The victims said the armed forces entered the Hindu communities and torched their houses – a claim corroborated by some sections of the Myanmar press and contradicted in others.
Bakul Bala, a resident of Mongdu area in Rakhine state, said a group of armed people wearing masks entered their area and tortured the villagers.
They also picked up four family members of Bakul Bala and later killed them, she added.
Dijendra, also a resident of Mongdu area, said the armed forces killed all 86 people of the Hindu community at Koachhang Hindu Para.
Meanwhile, leaders of Cox’s Bazar unit of Bangladesh Hindu-Buddha-Christian Oikya Parishad visited the Hindu community people and urged the local administration and others to provide assistance to Hindu citizens of Myanmar. – UNB
