GP launches m-Centrex to upgrade BR telecom system

Dhaka – Grameenphone Limited, the leading telecommunications service provider in the country, formally launched m- Centrex for Bangladesh Railway aiming to upgrade the telecommunication system of Bangladesh Railway by transforming the copper based system into fiber/IP system. m-Centrex is a solution that ensures mobility and business efficiency with high system availability for an organization under GSM platform. Here existing fixed-line exchange functionalities of BR are incorporated into mobile devices (ie. fixed wireless terminals, mobile handsets) through short code dialing option. The new system will replace the existing PABX system. Initially 1260 m-Centrex connections including more than 300 remote stations at different locations of Bangladesh have been provided to BR. GP will gradually extend up to 1,700 connections.
Abul Kalam Azad Secretary of the Ministry of Railway inaugurated the service at a program held at the Rail Bhaban on July 04, 2013.  Vivek Sood, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone was present at the occasion. Md. Abu Taher, Director General of Bangladesh Railway, Amzad Hossain, Additional Director General Infrastructure of Bangladesh Railway, Tanveer Mohammad, Chief Technology Officer of Grameenphone and other high Officials of BR and GP; among others; were present at the launching program.
Secretary expressed gratitude to GP for modernization and introducing m-Centrex for BR network replacing existing PABX system. He also expressed that BR operation will improved by using this system.
Vivek Sood said, “Successful implementation of m-Centrex will not only strengthen Bangladesh Railway’s strategic relationship with Grameenphone but also bring efficiency to its communication systems.”
DG BR expressed that, GP-BR relation exists for last 16 years through a contract for utilizing BR optical fiber. He expressed that GP will also improve their train control, station to station telephone and Block System. After Completion of this telecom system BR will be able to improve their train operation further.
