Playwright Begum Mumtaz no more

One of the leading playwright-writer of the country Begum Mumtaz Hossain has passed away at the age of 77.
She breathed her last at the Uttara Crescent Hospital in Dhaka at 9:30pm on Thursday, her niece Tania Mostafiz told journalists .Hossain came to the limelight by penning popular TV drama series of the 80s, ‘Shakal-Shandhya’ and ‘Shuktara’.
She is a sister of seasoned filmmaker late Alamgir Kabir and mother of noted filmmaker, painter late Khalid Mahmood Mithu.
Her husband Jahangir Hossain, a retired police officer, died in 1989.
Hossain buried at the Banani graveyard after the funeral prayers at Uttara Sector 6 on Friday, Tania said.
The Begum Rokeya Award-winner served as the principal at the Udayan Higher Secondary School in Dhaka. She also took an active role during the War of Liberation in 1971.
