Dhaka – Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society played a calculative 2-2 draw at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Wednesday to assure their quarterfinal berths in the Independence Cup Football.After the match, all three teams of Group A — Sheikh Jamal DC, Rahmatganj MFS and Dhaka Mohammedan SC — secured two points each, but Sheikh Jamal DC and Rahmatganj MFS booked seats for the last-eight stage scoring more goals than Mohammad SC.Earlier, Premier League champions Dhaka Abahani Limited, Sheikh Russel KC, Brothers Union and Farashganj SC confirmed the quarterfinals from their respective groups.Both the teams started the day’s match in a do-or-die situation to reach quarterfinals where a win could give them quarterfinal berth and a defeat elimination from meet.But, both the teams had a chance to stay in the race if they played to a draw with more than one goal and finally they achieved their target.In the day’s match, Sheikh Jamal DC dominated the first half by a Zahid Parvez goal in the 39th minute (1-0) while Rashedul Shuvo restored the parity for Rahmatganj MFS in the 62nd minute (1-1). Rakib Sarker again put Sheikh Jamal ahead in the 67th minute (2-1) and Mohammad Elias levelled the margin again in the 79th minute (2-2).
