Fire at Gazipur cotton godown, 3 CNG garrages gutted

Gazipur, Mar 8 – A fire broke out at a cotton godown of a spinning mill at Bagher Bazar in the city on Thursday.
AktaruzzamanLiton, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service, said the fire broke out at the godown of the spinning mill named Mosharraf Composite Textile Ltd around 3am and spread soon.On information, seven firefighting units from Tongi, Joydebpur, Sreepur and Bhaluka rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 9 am after six hours of frantic efforts, he said.
Machineries and a number of cotton belts were gutted in the fire.
However, the origin of the fire could not be known immediately.
In another fire incident in Capital Dhaka three CNG-run auto-rickshaw garages and one shanty were gutted in a fire that broke out in the garage at North Goran in city’s Khilgaon area early Thursday.
The fire originated at a garage around 12:45am and soon engulfed adjacent garages and shanty.
On information, three units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after one hour of frantic efforts, said inspector Ataur Rahman of Fire Service and Civil Defense headquarters.
The estimated losses caused by the fire are about Tk 40 lakh, the fire official said, adding that fire fighters recovered valuables worth about Tk 60 lakh. – UNB
