With the holy Eid- ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the
Muslims, is coming nearer, the Eid-shopping has started gaining
momentum in Netrakona district town day by day.
All the shopping centres and super markets in the district town have
been flooded with different readymade garments and colourful dresses
in latest designs including shalwar kamij, three piece, pants, shirts,
panjabies and sarees.
This correspondent while visiting different market places and shopping
centres in the district town on Thursday, found a large number of
customers mostly children and women crowding the markets and shops.
Many customers said that the retail prices of various dresses or
sarees are higher than the price of previous years despite adequate
supply of the Eid-items in all the markets.
The middle-income group of customers are moving from one shop to
another following the price hike of the Eid-items while the low-income
group of people are crowding the footpath shops or small shops. The
affluent section of customers is buying their Eid-items from the
modern super markets.
When asked, over a dozen of local traders said that the volume of
transaction is satisfactory this year than the previous years as the
