Bangladesh’s Zia finishes18th in KIIT Int’l Chess   

Dhaka- Bangladesh Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman finished 18th in the 11th KIIT International Chess Festivalat Bhubaneswar in India’s Odisha on Friday.Zia collected seven points from nine games losing the last round game against GM Amonatov Farrukkh of Tajikistan.

Among other Bangladeshi players, FM Taibur Rahman placed 47th with 6.5 points while CM Chanchal Mumer Ghosh and Abzid Rahman secured 5.5 points each to place 112th and 119th respectively.

Avik Sarker [136th], Sadnan Hasan Dihan[142nd] and Jamal Uddin[143rd] earned five points each to get their places while Mezanur Rahman[173rd] and Tahsin Tajwar Zia[181st] secured 4.5 points each.

IM Karthik Venkataraman of India clinched the title securing nine points from nine outings.

A total of 293 players from 13 countries, including 19 grandmasters, one woman grandmaster and 23 international masters took part in the event.UNB
