Dhaka, Nov 01 – Bangladesh-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) has discussed the impact of pandemic on business and identified five strategies to mitigate business risks during the pandemic.
BGCCI President Omar Sadat identified the strategies as readiness assessments, risk management plan, business impact analysis, policy management and incident management.
The issues were discussed at a business event on Saturday, said a media release on Sunday.
The event was participated by leading business houses of Germany namely ABB, TÜV SÜD, Schenker, Rosenberger, Pulcra Chemical, TÜV Rheinland, Brenntag, Fugro & Wilo and leading Bangladeshi company namely Sanofi Bangladesh, BECC, Jamuna Bank, Green Delta Capital, Shanta Group, Auko Tex, Homebound, Austan & Leisure Bangladesh.
BGCCI’s General Counsel Ivonne Stein highlighted BGCCI’s role to improve the business environment.
She spoke about the services BGCCI is providing to increase business activities in Bangladesh and Germany.
German Company TÜV SÜD Bangladesh’s Country Head Satish K. Somuraj, shared his experience on how he managed his professional and personal life during the pandemic.
He also gave suggestions to BGCCI to enrich the chamber’s activities in order to improve the business environment in Bangladesh. He stated that the pandemic has presented new opportunities to increase his business activities.
The Homebound and DHL Chairman Anselm A Quiah expressed his satisfaction on the activities of BGCCI and suggested to hold regular such events.
A large number of German companies raised their concerns on problems being faced by Customs, Tax, and Banking related matters. There was also a suggestion made to request Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) to provide a special Economic Zone for German and EU companies.
They also suggested seeking the support of the Ambassador of Germany in Bangladesh. President assured that BGCCI will definitely raise these matters with relevant authorities.
Ambassador Shahed Akhtar mentioned that BGCCI’s role in forging congenial conditions for more business activities between Bangladesh and Germany.
He also stated that the recent Asian Development Bank report that Bangladesh is managing the Covid-19 situation and experiencing economic recovery & growth.
He urged Bangladeshi companies to set up offices in Germany like Walton and other companies to increase trade between the two countries.
He appreciated the commitment made by the German Minister Dr. Gerd Muller to stand beside Bangladesh on the Rohingya issue.
BGCCI new Website was also launched and soon it will be available in German language as suggested by the Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh. – UNB
