Transport workers here on Thursday threatened to enforce an indefinite strike in Sylhet division if BNP chairman’s special assistant Shimul Biswas is not freed within 72 hours.
They issued the ultimatum from a rally arranged at Sylhet central bus terminal in the city protesting the arrest of Shimul Biswas, also joint general secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers’ Federation (BRTWF).Shimul Biswas along with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo was arrested in the wee hours of Saturday.On Thursday, a Dhaka court placed the duo on an eight-day remand each in two cases.General secretary of Sarak Paribahan Sramik Union (SPSU) Rafique Uddin Miah and senior vice president of Truk Sramik Union Abdus Salam addressed the protest rally presided over by SPSU president M Tera Miah. -UNB
