Harvesting of Aman paddy is progressing fast in 10 districts of Khulna division during the current season with much enthusiasm among the farmers, Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said.
Farmers of the 10 south-western districts cultivated Aman paddy on a total of 6,75,978 hectare of land this year with the production target of 17.48 lakh tonnes of rice, the sources said.
The ten districts are- Jessore, Narail, Jhenidah, Magura, Khustia, Chuadanga, Meherpur, Satkhira, Khulna and Bagerhat.
Farmers are expecting a bumper production of Aman paddy this fiscal as they are getting at least 25-26 maunds of paddy from a acre of land thanks to proper monitoring by the authorities, DAE sources said.
While visiting some areas of Jessore, Khulna and Narail districts BSS correspondent found that cutting of early varieties of Aman paddy had almost been completed and the harvesting of other varieties was going on in full swing.
DAE officials and local farmers of the region expressed their similar hopes to get a bumper Aman production as climatic conditions are so far favourable for the purposes.
The officials of DAE particularly sub-assistant agriculture officers in field level was motivated the farmers to cultivate Aman on their land in large scale for ensuring food security and to make the growers economically benefit as well.
Additional Director (AD) of Jessore regional DAE, Abdul Mannan told BSS that necessary steps were taken to ensure supply of adequate quantity of improved quality seeds, fertilisers, insecticides and other agricultural inputs among the growers in fair prices to boost Aman production.
Field level workers and crop specialists of the DAE helped the farmers to make the Aman cultivation programme a success in the current season, he added. -BSS, Jessore
