Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to Bangladesh in December 2013 was Tk 3387.975 million (US$ 43.575 million), Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury informed Parliament Tuesday. The FDI in December 2012 was Tk 1230.239 million (US$ 15.436 million), said the minister in-charge of Prime Minister’s Office in parliament responding to a written question of ruling party MP M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11). She mentioned that the FDI inflow in December 2011 was Tk 94358.520 million (US$ 1150.714 million). Matia said political unrest, hartal, blockade and violence adversely impacted on the trade-commerce and investment or the economic activities of the country. “These put hurdles on the local and foreign investment. As a result, the employment and economic growth was hampered,” she added. – UNB
