Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Saturday underscored the need for adopting environment-friendly sustainable development policies fitted with Information Communication Technology (ICT) to face the climate change challenges.
The minister was speaking at the inauguration of 2nd National Conference on Community Based Adaptation to Climate Change (NCAB2) at Gulshan in the capital.Inu said they need to have a three-tier synergy — domestic, regional and global — in order to formulate viable and successful strategies for community-based adaptation to climate change.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had urged all developed countries to come forward to face the impacts of global climate change.
“The climate change caused by excessive emission of greenhouse gas from industries of the developed countries affect all other countries of the earth although we aren’t at all responsible for it,” he added.
Director of International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) Dr Saleemul Huq presented the keynote speech at the conference.
Member of Planning Commission Dr Shamsul Alam also spoke at the programme held with Executive Director of BCAS Dr Atiq Rahman in the chair. – UNB
