BPL: Sylhet phase begins Thursday

Dhaka – The six-match Sylhet phase of the ongoing Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) begins on Thursday (January 2) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

This is for the 3rd time that BPL matches are taking place in Sylhet. Earlier in 2017, Sylhet hosted BPL for the first time for eight matches and in the January last year, Sylhet hosted eight matches again.

In the Sylhet phase, Rajshahi Royals will take on Rangpur Rangers in the first match on Thursday (January 2) at 1:30pm while hosts Sylhet Thunder will face Cumilla Warriors in the 2nd game at 6:30pm.

The Sylhet phase will come to the end on January 4 and the final phase of BPL will start on January 7 in Dhaka.

As per latest BPL standing, Chattogram Challengers topped the list securing 12 points from nine matches and another two points will ensure their playoff berth.

Khulna Tigers (7 games), Dhaka Platoon (8 games) and Rajshahi Royals (8 games) have secured 10 points each, but by virtue of better run rate, Khulna Tigers are in a better position than the other two. Khulna Tigers are currently in number two in the points table. Platoon and Royals are at number three and four respectively.

Cumilla Warriors (8 games) and Rangpur Rangers (8 games) are at number five and six positions respectively with six points each. Warriors secured the better position for better run rate than the Rangers. Sylhet are at the bottom of the league table with two points from eight matches. UNB
