DRU Media Cup Football: UNB off to good start

Dhaka – The Minister Fridge-DRU six-a-side Media Cup Football Tournament, organised by Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), kicked off on Tuesday at the Shaheed (Capt) M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium with UNB getting off to a good start beating Jaijai Din by 2-0 goals.Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon inaugurated the meet in the morning through the UNB-Jaijai Din match.Chairman of meet sponsor My One Electronics and Minister Hi-Tech Park Limited MA Razzak Khan, DRU President Shakhawat Hossain Badsha, General Secretary Morsalin Nomani and Sports Secretary Mojibar Rahman were also present on the occasion.In the opening match, United News of Bangladesh (UNB) defeated Jaijai Din by 2-0 goals to move to the 2nd round.Aminul Islam Nayan and Junayed Shishir scored for UNB one in each half. Junayed Shisir played a vital role in the win and was adjudged best player of the match.In the other opening day matches, Bhorer Kagoj beat Karatoa 1-0, Amader Shomoy defeated Ajkaler Khobor 3-0, Manabzamin overcame Manobkantha 3-0, Naya Diganta defeated New Nation 3-0, Channel 24 outplayed Sharebiz 4-0, NTV beat Amader Orthoneeti 2-0 while Jugantor got walkover against New Age.Eight more matches will be held on Wednesday morning at the same venue.A total of 40 teams from different news agencies, and print, electronic and online media houses, split into 16 groups, are taking part in the first phase on the knockout basis.The champion team will be awarded with cash money of Tk 40,000 while the runners-up team will get Tk 20,000 along with trophies. Two semifinalist teams will receive Tk 5,000 each as cash awards.
