Gas, power price hike on cards

Dhaka – The government is planning to increase the gas and power prices, said State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid here on Tuesday.
Nasrul Hamid came up with the government plan while addressing a conference of diploma engineers of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd (PGCB) at the auditorium of Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB).He said the decision on power tariff hike will be made within a month while different issues are being discussed to raise the gas price, too.
The State Minister said the government is planning to hike the power tariff to an affordable level and then the gas price will be raised.
Besides, he said, Titas Gas Company has been directed to launch a move to disconnect all illegal gas connections.
Titas already started the drive on Sunday, he said adding that had Titas played its due role there would have been no such a huge illegal connections.
Association of PGCB Diploma Engineers organised its biennial conference with its president Abdur Rouf in the chair. It was also attended by PGCB managing director Masum Al Beruni and IDEB president AKMA Hamid. – UNB
