Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu today called as unfair unilateral intervention on the flow of common rivers amid reports of damage caused in Bangladesh with the opening of Farakka Barrage gates in the upstream Indian region.“It is not a correct thing to unilaterally withdraw waters or opening the gates (of a barrage),” he told newsmen after distributing relief materials among the people who were affected at his constituency at Bheramara by the bank of the Padma river after the gates of Farakka Barrage were opened in India three days ago.
He added: “The damage caused by the opening of the barrage gates should be conveyed to the Indian authorities after assessment.”Inu distributed succor at the localities at Char Golapnagar, Dhakachar and Juniadaha of Bheramara by the bank of the Padma River.The minister said the government would take initiatives to permanently rehabilitate the flood-hit people and local administration was directed to prepare a list of flood affected farmers aiming to provide financial support to remove their sufferings.Turning to politics, Inu said BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia sided with militants by raising question about success of the present government to combat militancy while “She (Khaleda) patronized militancy through hiding information about them during her tenure”.“The present government is successfully working to uproot militancy from the country on the basis of accurate information,” he said.
