Dhaka – A 10-man first batch of the West Indies Cricket team arrived here on Wednesday to play a two-match Test, three-match ODI and three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Chattogram, Dhaka and Sylhet.They landed at Shahjalal International Airport from India in the afternoon.However, the Caribbean team left the capital for the port city of Chattogram in the evening to prepare themselves for the two-day tour match against BCB Eleven beginning on Sunday (Nov 18) at the MA Aziz Stadium there.
The remaining part of the West Indies team is scheduled to arrive here in three groups on Thursday ahead of the two-day practice match in Chattogram.
Vice-Captain of the West Indian Test team Kraigg Brathwaite is expected to lead the team in the two-match series against Bangladesh beginning on November 22 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram while the 2nd and last Test is scheduled for November 30-December 4 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
Before the ODI series, the West Indian team will play a one-day preparatory match against a BCB selection on November 6 in Fatullah.
All the matches of the ODI and T20I series will be held on the day-night basis.
The first two ODI matches will be held on December 9 and 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, while the 3rd one will be held on December 14 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The T20I will also be held at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on December 17.
The touring Caribbean team will play the remaining two T20I matches on December 20 and 22 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka before leaving Bangladesh on December 23.
Talking to local media at the Dhaka airport, the chief executive of West Indies Cricket Board Johnny Grave said Jason Holder has a “partial thickness tear of his subscatularis tendon” for which he will undergo physiotherapy and strengthening work, and will be reassessed in four weeks’ time.
“The medical panel was concerned that if Jason was to bowl in Bangladesh, the partial tear may become a full tear which may involve the need for surgery and cause a significant break from cricket,” he said.
“It was, therefore, then recommended for Jason not to travel to Bangladesh and instead undergo physiotherapy and rehab in Barbados.”UNB
