12 held before DU entrance exam

Police have arrested 12 persons in the capital, hours before the Dhaka University’s ‘Ka’ unit admission tests began.Detectives claim these men had taken money from candidates against the promise of giving them the entrance test questions.Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner Muntasirul Islam told bdnews24.com the suspects had been picked up from Farmgate, Nakhalparha, and Tejkuniparha, in Dhaka, on Thursday night.More than 70,000 aspirants are appearing for the ‘Ka’ unit tests for 1,660 seats in the science faculty.Friday’s exam started at 10am at 76 centres on and outside the campus.Dhaka University’s acting Proctor AM Amjad Ali told greenwatchbd.com that police first arrested a man in Farmgate for alleged swindling in the guise of providing ‘question papers’.Detectives later nabbed others from various areas, he added.Candidates are not allowed to take electronic devices in the examination rooms to prevent irregularities.Mobile courts are also patrolling the examination centres.
