15 injured in AL factional clash in Jhenidah

Jhenidah, July 30 — At least 15 ruling Awami League activists were injured in a clash between two factions at Doharo village in Shoilakupa upazila on Tuesday.

Bazlur Rahman, Shoilakupa Police Station’s officer-in-charge, said followers of Hakimpur union’s former member Golam Ali Morad clashed with supporters of incumbent member Mosharraf Hossain Musa in the morning over construction of a house.

They attacked each other with sharp weapons and sticks leaving Asharaful Islam, Shariful Islam, Nizam Uddin, Muktar Hossain, Tofazzel Hossain, Shahidul Islam and nine others injured, the OC said.

Police later brought the situation under control. It stemmed from a long-running dispute between UP members, he said.

The injured were taken to Shoilakupa Upazila Health Complex and other local hospitals.

Police personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent further escalation of violence. – UNB
