Dhaka – The 1st SAARC Chess Championships (Open & Women’s), sponsored by Rosatom (Russia), begins on Monday (Nov 25) at New Sindhurful Hall of FARS Hotel & Resorts in the capital.
State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russel MP, will inaugurate the meet as the chief guest.
Secretary of the Ministry of Youth & Sports M Akhter Hossain, Adviser of FIDE (World Chess Federation) Berik Balgabaev will be the special guests at the function, to be chaired by President of Bangladesh Chess Federation and Director General of RAB Benzir Ahmed.
The first of the nine-round Swiss League system competition will begin at 3 pm after the inaugural ceremony. Apart from Open and Women’s competitions, one-day Blitz chess championship will also be held.UNB
