2 killed while taking rainbath as rain disrupts city life

Two people, including a minot boy, died of electrocution and two others injured during a heavy rain in the city’s Lalbagh area on Friday afternoon.
Torrential rains with lighting strikes lashed the city on Friday afternoon leaving the normal life in disarray as many streets went under water. The thundershower which ended the sweltering heat of the past few days came as a relief to city-dwellers.The deceased were identified as Sohanur Rahman Rifat, 11, son of Dulal, and Ruma Akhter, 28, wife of Shamsuddin while the injured are Rifats’ mother Jarina and Nishat, 11.
Sources at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said the victims along with several others were taking rain bath during the heavy rainfall. Suddenly, an electric wire got severed from a pole and fell on a tin-shed house around 4:15 pm.
Rifat, Ruma, Jarina and Nishat received electric shock in the incident.
Of them, seriously injured Rifat and Ruma were rushed to the DMCH where on-duty doctor declared them dead at about 5:20 pm.
Streets in different areas of the capital, including Shenpara, Parbata, Kazipara, Gulistan, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Manikdi Bazar Road, Merul Badda Bazar Road, Shahjahanpur, Fakirerpool, Nayapaltan, Motijheel, Rajarbagh, Rampura and Badda, went under water, creating longstanding traffic jam in those areas
Some 20 mms of rainfall in city were recorded at the Met Office at Agargaon till 6:00 pm from 3:00 pm, a meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said.
Water stagnations were created in many pocket areas of the city like Razarbagh, Shantinagar, Rampura and Malibagh for lack of operational sewerage system, worsening the sufferings of the commuters.
Shopping malls and other businesses witnessed the thin presence of customers in the evening as the sudden rain hit the city. – News Desk
