Dhaka – Ending all the speculations, two panels are going to contest the much-talked-about election to Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) scheduled for April 29.
The two panels — one led by Abdus Sadeque and the other by AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed — remained in the election race after the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers ended on Tuesday.
A total of 12 candidates, all from the Sayeed-led panel, withdrew their candidature.
The Hockey Federation election was earlier postponed twice in the dying moment on lame excuses — first for flood in the country’s northern region and then for dispute over a councillorship.
Abdus Sadeque, who is general secretary of the immediate past ad-hoc committee and one of the directors of Abahani Ltd, is leading a full-pledged panel in the election while the rival panel is led by Mohammedan SC councillor and Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club Hockey Committe Chairman AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed.
A total of 83 councillors, except Shishu Kishore Sangha’s Tareq Ahmed Adil, will be able to exercise their franchise to form the 28-memder executive committee of the federation, including five vice presidents, one general secretary, two joint secretaries, a treasurer and nineteen EC members.
Candidates who withdrew their candidature are Vice-president -AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed (Mohammedan SC) and Pratap Sankar Hazra (Hockey Umpires Board), General Secretary -Abdur Rashiud Sarkar (Usha KC), Joint Secretary -Badrul Islam Dipu (Mariner Youngs Club), Members -Sarwar Hossain (Victoria SC), Mahmud Ribon (Jashore), Nur-e-Alam Khokon (Sylhet), Anwara Sarkar (Gazipur), Quamrul Islam Kismat (Wanderers Club), Hazi Mohammad Humayun (Bangladesh SC), Habibur Rahman (Kishoreganj) and Ratan Kumar Roy (Gopalganj).
The Abdus Sadeque-led panel candidates (except EC members): Vice-president- Sajed AA Adel, Dr Mahfuzur Rahman, Zaki Ahmed, Mujtaba Zaman and Mohammad Yousuf Ali, General Secretary -Abdus Sadeque, Joint Secretaries- Mahbubul Ehsan Rana and Mohammad Yousuf, Treasurer – Kazi Moinuzzaman Pila.
Sayeed-led panel candidates: Vice-president – Abdur Rashid Shikder, Sarwar Hossain, Syed Mostaque Ali, Mahmud Ribon and Nur-e-Alam Khokon, General Secretary – AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed, Joint Secretaries- Quamrul Islam Kismat and Anwara Sarkar, Treasurer – Hazi Mohammad Humayun.
However, the final list of candidates will officially be published at 4pm on April 18.UNB
