20 swimming trucks being imported to cut Dhaka air pollution

Dhaka, Dec 28 – LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam on Saturday said 20 swimming trucks will be procured to reduce the air pollution in the capital. He came up with the information while speaking at the installation ceremony of City Development Journalists’ Forum, Bangladesh at the Cirdap auditorium.
The minister said the government has taken steps to cut the air pollution of the city. “A committee was formed at an inter-ministerial meeting recently. Twenty swimming trucks will be brought as per the recommendations of the committee to settle the dust swirling of the city,” he said.
He said the capital city of Dhaka was built in an unplanned way. “Various utility services, including power, water and gas lines, were not done thinking about the future.”
Talking about the river pollution, Tazul said the Prime Minister has formed a committee, headed by him, to prevent the pollution. “We’ve already devised the master plan. We’ll start work very soon.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Atiqul Islam said work to build a smart city has started.
About late DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq’s initiative to build 11 U-loops, he said the LGRD Ministry has already approved the project. “Work on two has already completed while the third one is being constructed in the Airport area and the rest will be built gradually.” – UNB
