21235 dengue patients hospitalised, new cases 1687 Friday

Munshiganj, Aug 2 (UNB) – A dengue patient died after suffering from the mosquito-borne disease at Dhaka’s Mitford Hospital on Friday.

The deceased was named as Md Anwar Hossain, an organising secretary of Tongibari upazila Human Rights Commission.

Family sources said he was admitted to Mitford Hospital on Wednesday with dengue fever. He died around 5am.

Anwar was buried at Noyagaon Madrasa graveyard after Jum’a prayers.

In 24 hours until Friday morning, 1,687 new dengue patients were hospitalised. Official data showed that 21,235 people were hospitalised with dengue since January 1. Of them, 18,842 patients were admitted to hospitals since July 2.

Currently, 6,582 patients, including children, are undergoing treatment at hospitals.

Although the government insists that 14 dengue patients have so far died, unofficial estimates suggest the death toll is higher.
