2nd autopsy report on Tonu’s body to be handed over to CID Sunday

Seventy four days after the body of slain Sohagi Jahan Tonu was exhumed for a fresh autopsy examination, Comilla Medical College Hospital is likely to handover the autopsy report to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday. The autopsy report was sealed with an envelope and is likely to be handed over to the CID office in Comilla on Sunday noon, said Dr Kamda Prosad Saha, chief of the medical board at the Forensic Department of Comilla Medical College Hospital on Saturday. However, Dr Kamda Prosad Saha did not agree to say anything about the findings of the second autopsy.

On June 7, the CID submitted the full report of the DNA test, conducted on the body of Tonu, to the medical board formed.Earlier, a Comilla court ordered the CID to give the DNA report on two samples — teeth and spermatozoa — out of total seven samples to the medial board following pleas filed by the board. However, the CID then replied that it would be easier to provide the full report instead of giving the reports on two samples.Following this, CID inspector Gazi M Ibrahim, also the investigation officer of the case, filed a petition on Thursday seeking a court order to pass the full DNA report to the medical board. On March 30, Tonu’s body was exhumed from her grave for collecting DNA samples and fresh postmortem.Later, members of Crime Scene Unit of the CID brought the DNA and other samples of teeth, nails and body to Dhaka for examination.Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a second year student of History department of Comilla Victoria College and member of Victoria College Theatre, was found dead in a bush beside a culvert inside the Comilla Cantonment on March 20.
