4 cops among 5 hurt in Keraniganj gunfight

Four cops and a criminal were injured in a gunfight between police and a gang of terrorists at Zianagar village in Keraniganj upazila on Thursday night.   The injured were identified as sub-inspectors Abul Kalam Azad and Aminul Islam, and constables Abdul Matin and M Safur of Keraniganj Model Police Station.
Police arrested bullet-hit Noor Hossain, 28, son of Nurul Haque of village.   Being tipped off that a gang of criminals was holding a clandestine meeting, a team of police conducted a drive at the village around 11:15pm.   Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Noor and his accomplices opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
Four policemen and Noor sustained bullet wounds in the gun battle.   Police arrested Noor who was hit by a bullet in the right leg. He was admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), popularly known as Pangu Hospital.
The injured policemen were given treatment at different local hospitals.   Officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station Shahjahan said Noor is notorious terror and drug trader and he is accused in two cases. -UNB
