4 more drown in flood, taking death toll to 135

At least four people drowned in floodwaters, two each in Kurigram and Tangail districts, according to the health authorities’ daily update on Saturday.
The death tally from the ongoing flood – already the longest-lasting since 1998 -reached 135 with the latest deaths, said a bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
A total of 159 upazilas across the country have been affected in the flood set in during the last week of June, and is yet to subside fully.
People in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Sunamganj, Sirajganj, Tangail, Faridpur and Naogaon were the worst sufferers from the deluge.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, 19 rivers were flowing above the danger level at 27 points across the country.
The Brahmaputra is likely to swell further in the next 24 hours until Sunday noon while water level in the Padma River may remain stable during the tenure.
Water in other major rivers was receding Saturday morning and it may continue in the next 48 hours, the FFWC added.
It also predicted that flood situation in Kurigram and Narayanganj may remain unchanged while other districts are likely to see improvement in flooding, reports UNB.
