4 UP chairmen, 5 members suspended over relief goods theft

The Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry has suspended four Union Parishad chairmen and five members for irregularities in distribution of relief materials amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Two separate notifications were issued in this regard by the Local Government Division on Wednesday.

The suspended UP chairmen are — Md Korban Ali of Dhalarchar union parishad in Bera upazila of Pabna, Md Abdus Samad of Pangasi union parishad in Raiganj upazila on Sirajganj, Md Alauddin Paltu of Kakchira union parishad in Patharghata upazila in Borguna and Kazi Shahidul Islam of 1 no Andarmanik union parishad in Mehendiganj upazila in Barishal.

The suspended UP members are — Md Abdul Mannan Mollah of ward No 7 of Subli union parishad of Debidwar upazila in Cumilla, Md Sekandar Miah of ward No 1 of Nayansri union parishad in Nawabganj upazila in Dhaka, Md Sohel Miah, ward No 8 of Gozaria union parishad in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj, Mohammad Omar, ward No 6 and Md Jewel Miah, ward No 5 member in No 1 Badarpur union in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola.

Besides, show-cause notices were served seeking explanation within 10 working days as to why they should not be removed from their posts.
