Five local films having received censor certificates are ready to hit cinemas across the country in Eid-ul-Fitr. The films are Uttam Akash’s ‘Chittagaiya Poya Noakhailla Maiya’, Shamimul Islam Shamim’s ‘Amar Prem Amar Priya’, Raihan Rafi’s ‘Poramon 2’, Abdul Mannan’s ‘Pangku Jamai’ and Nur Imran Mithu’s ‘Kamola Rocket’.‘So far five films have received censor certificates. Now it is up to the producers to release the films in Eid’, said Mohammad Ali Sarkar, secretary of Bangladesh Film Censor Board.
‘Chittagaiya Poya Noakhailla Maiya’ is a romantic comedy starring Shakib Khan and Shabnam Bubly. ‘Amar Prem Amar Priya’ revolves around a rural love story. The film stars Kayes Arju and Porimoni in lead roles. ‘Pangku Jamai’ stars Shakib Khan and Apu Biswas.
Raihan Rafi’s ‘Poramon 2’, a sequel to Jakir Hossain Raju’s 2013 film ‘Poramon’, stars Siam Ahmed, Puja Cherry and Bapparaj in lead roles. ‘Komola Rocket’ is based on two short stories penned by Shahaduzzaman. The film stars Tauquir Ahmed, Mosharraf Karim and Samia Sayeed in lead roles.
Local agents of foreign producers applied to get permission for importing and releasing two Tollywood films and Action Cut Entertainment submitted its film ‘Tui Shudhu Amar’ with an intention of releasing it in the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr as a joint-venture film.
But a Supreme Court order has banned releases of imported films during festivals so the two Tollywood films- ‘Bhaijan Elo Re’ and ‘Sultan’- cannot be released in Eid. Besides, the joint-venture film preview committee did not approve ‘Tui Shudhu Amar’ to be considered as a joint-venture film saying the film did not comply with guidelines of joint-venture film set by the government.
‘It is true that five films have already got censor clearance but which films will be released in the cinemas in Eid will be decided by the producers,’ said Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, also president of Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association and member of Bangladesh Film Censor Board.
Film Exhibitors’ Association leaders said that over 300 cinemas will remain open across the country during the Eid-ul-Fitr to entertain film lovers. Exhibitors, however, fear that the cinemas will witness low turnout of film lovers as the 2018 FIFA World Cup will begin just before Eid-ul-Fitr.
‘As the FIFA World Cup will begin just before Eid-ul-Fitr we think that cinemas will witness low turnout of film lovers. However, we are hopeful that film lovers will throng cinemas to watch Eid films’, said Mia Alauddin, former general secretary and current advisor of Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association.
