5 ways honey can change your hair

We’ve got some sweet tips on how to keep your mane looking flawless and it doesn’t even require any fancy salon product. All natural hair-care is all the rage and right now everyone is buzzing about honey! This all-natural ingredient does way more than just sweeten your tea, honey is loaded with healthy hair benefits. Just keep reading to see what this sticky goo can do for you!

  1. PROMOTE HAIR GROWTH

Honey is a natural antioxidant and also great for your skin, so it helps keep your scalp healthy and support hair growth. Honey also stimulates hair follicles with its moisturizing elements.

Try it: Mix 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tsp of peppermint oil,  and 1 tsp of coconut oil. Apply the hair mask to wet or dry hair, rinse with diluted apple cider vinegar, follow up with conditioner, then style as usual.

TO CREATE NATURAL HIGHLIGHTS

You can actually highlight your mane without the use of any harsh chemicals. Because of an enzyme called glucose oxidase, honey produces hydrogen peroxide. In other words, honey acts a natural and more gentle lightener. But unlike the bottled stuff on the shelves, honey takes a few frequent sessions to lift your color. But what it lacks in instant highlight, it gains in health benefits; honey won’t leave your cuticles damaged or stiff. Since honey is an emollient, your strands will feel soft, nourished, and smell amazing!

Try it: Mix 4 parts honey with 1 part distilled water, let it sit for a few minutes before applying to your wet hair. Leave mixture in hair for 20 minutes, then rinse with conditioner.  (FYI: If you’re looking for a brighter blonde, add lemon to the mix. If you’re seeking a reddish-blonde color, add some cinnamon. 1. SOFTEN AND CONDITION

Honey is a natural softener which makes it a superpower ingredient in any hair elixir. As a humectant, honey prevents your hair from drying out. Because of its high sugar content, honey also does a great job at helping your strands retain moisture and maintain strong follicles.

Try it: Heat up a mixture of extra virgin olive oil and honey (either on a stovetop or several seconds in the microwave – with mixing in between heat time — until warm). Apply the warm mixture to clean damp hair and distribute evenly. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let concoction marinate for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.

  1. TO CLEAN

Besides smelling sweet and softening your tresses, honey has some antibacterial properties too. It helps protect the scalp from infection and bacteria, which means honey is anti-dandruff and anti-itchy head.

Try it: Dilute honey with distilled water and apply to scalp. Let mixture sit in hair for 2-3 hours (catch up on that new Netflix series everyone’s been talking about). Then rinse thoroughly.  If hair is still too sticky, follow up the rinse with a diluted apple cider vinegar wash.

  1. ADD SHINE

It’s no surprise that this golden sweet substance can make our hair look just as luscious. If you’ve been dealing with dull or lifeless strands, honey will restore the life and shine! Honey clarifies and conditions, so your hair will have no choice but to live her best shiney life.

Try it: Mix 5 tablespoons of honey with 2 cups of water and apply mixture to clean hair. Put on a shower cap and let mixture work its magic for 30 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, t-shirt dry (to keep hair cuticles smooth), style as usual.
