7 include bride killed in Panchagarh minibus, easybike collision

Dhaka, Nov 07 – A head-on collision between a bus and an easy bike yesterday in Magurmari area on the Panchagarh-Tentulia Highway claimed seven lives including a newlywed bride. Six of the deceased are identified as a newlywed bride Mukti, 19, Akbar Ali, 70, his wife Nurima, 55, Makud, 45 and Labu, 27 and easy bike’s driver Rafiq, 28.
The identity of the other deceased could not be known immediately, said Special Branch officer of Panchagarh Police Abdur Razzak Mian.
Police and eyewitnesses said that the Tentulia-bound bus Kazi Paribahan from Panchagarh town rammed the easy bike coming from the opposite direction in Magurmari area when the bike was taking a U-turn.
Four passengers and the easy bike driver died instantly on the spot, said Abdur Razzak. Meanwhile, the driver of the bus fled the scene, he added.
Three other critically injured passengers were rushed to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital. One of them died on the way to the hospital.
Local people swooped on the fire service men who went to the spot, said Panchagarh Fire Service Officer Niranjan Sarker.
They also vandalised an ambulance of Adhunik Sadar Hospital, said medical officer of the hospital Mansur Alam.
Later, the agitating people put barricades on the highway. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed to ease the mayhem.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Panchagarh Sabina Yeasmin, Police superintendent of Panchagarh Yusuf Ali and officer-in-charge of Sadar police station Abu Akkas reached at the spot and took the situation under control after near after 3 pm, said our correspondent.- Staff Reporter
