Experts at a function on Saturday emphasised the need for taking joint effort by government and private sector to create awareness among the people about kidney diseases to prevent it effectively and in time.
A joint effort of government and private sector can treat only five percent of total kidney patients of the country whereas 60 percent kidney diseases can be prevented only by building awareness among the people well in time, said eminent Kidney specialist Prof. Dr. MA Samad.He made the remarks at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the voluntary organisation Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) and International Child Development Foundation (ICDF).
The MoU was signed with the objectives to work together to aware the students of schools and colleges for changing lifestyle and food habit with a view to keeping their body and health sound lifel-ong.
Chairman of KAMPS Dr. MA Samad and Chairman of ICDF Afroza Begum Happy signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
Addressing the function, Dr Samad said treating the kidney disease, a silent killer, not only in Bangladesh but all over the world, they stressed combined effort comprising of the GOs and NGOs, private sector initiatives and voluntary services for creating widespread awareness for getting rid of the harmful disease.
He said that neglect of childhood physical problems may cause serious illness in course time and it may retain tremendous negative impact both economically and socially. That’s why ensuring their sound health through awareness has become a very vital issue.
The kidney specialist said at least 63 percent death are caused now-a-days, by the non-communicable disease where as its possible to prevent most of it through changing lifestyle, regular exercise and food habit.
“In some areas the KAMPS and ICDF will work jointly and the effective implementation of the project will result into remarkable and visible progress in curbing the kidney disease in the country”, Prof. Samad hoped.
ICDF Chairman Afroza Begum Happy expressed her resolve to make all-out efforts from the ICDF to ensure timely and successful implementation of the project.
Assistant Professor of Shahabuddin Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Syed Tanveer Ahmed stressed at thsound health and mind of the children in building a better and healthy future generation.

Vice Chairman of ICDF, Major (Retd) Dr. Sheikh Habibur Rahman, General Manager of KAMPS, SM Mahiuddin, Secretary of ICDF, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Ami, Dr. Nijam, Organising Secretary of KAMPS, Md. Alamin also spoke on the occasion.
A distinct committee comprising of members from both KAMPS and ICDF has been formed to execute the works of ‘KAMPS-ICDH Kidney School’ with Naqibul Islam Chpowhury as CEO, SM Mahiuddin as Project Director, Md. Ayub Hosain as Assistant Project Director. – Staff Reporter
