Dhaka, A 24-day long artificial limb fitment camp jointly organised by the India based Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti(BMVSS) of Jaipur (Rajasthan),the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation(NITOR), Bangladesh Orthopedic Society (BOS),and Jaipur Foot-Bangladesh Initiative ended with 617 disabled Bangladeshi persons getting artificial limbs.
The camp at NITOR benefited not only disabled from Dhaka,but from far away places like Sylhet,Jessore, Faridpur, Chittagong,Barisal, Rangpur,Ghazipur,Khulna and Rajshahi. Large number of disabled came from the rural areas.“The Indian NGO. BMVSS did a very creditable job by providing fitments to over 600 disabled persons who would not be able to walk with dignity.The BMVSS has not only provided them mobility,but also dignity and a lar ge number of them would be able to pursue their profession with added efficiency. The Jaipur Foot is high on technology and has efficient features and its durable and high performing and best suited for the South Asian conditions” said Prof Dr Md Iqbal Kavi,Director of NITOR.
The NITOR director said that BMVSS has agreed to hold more such camp in future and the next camp at Dhaka will be held in the month of February,2016.
Prof Kavi said NITOR,Bangaldesh Orthopaedic Society (BOS) and the Sadia Myeen-led Jaipur Foot-Bangaldesh Initiative will be the co-partners again for holding the camp.
Prof Kavi said a meeting with the founder and the chief patron of BVSS D.R.Mehta has paved the way for greater collaboration under which the BMVSS will train the personnel of NITOR in both and Jaipur and would also provide technical support to ensure that the limb making centre at NITOR start functioning once again.He said the BMVSS has also offered to support NITOR by supplying material.,
D.R.Mehta announced that the BMSS would provide 300 Jaipur Foot free to NITOR every year and would also supply the material at cost price.
Mehta said the BMVSS with a view to ensure that the lamb making centre resume its function once again would provide free training to the NITOR personnel-both in Jaipur and in Dhaka.
He said an M oU will be signed by the collaborating partners soon.
Jaipur born Sadia Moyeen of Jaipur Foot-Bangladesh Initiative,who was instrumental behind the project. Said that the hard working team of technicians led by the team leader Prakash Bhandari worked day and night to provide over 600 artificial limbs in record time which was a laudable effort,She said more such would be conducted in other parts of Bangladesh. – Press release
