678 more people released from quarantine in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 3: A total of 678 more people were released from quarantine as they completed their 14-day stay at home as quarantine period in all eight districts under Rajshahi division over the last 24 hours till 8am Sunday.With this, the number of total released people from home-quarantine stood at 15,943 and another 8,012 people remained in home and institutional quarantine in the division at present, said a daily report related to the COVID-19 quarantine here today.
Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said a total of 23,955 people had, so far, been put under home and institutional quarantine since March 10 last to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Meanwhile, a total of 410 new people have been kept under home quarantine as part of the present hectic efforts of bringing all the suspected people under quarantine in the division in the last 24 hours till this morning.
Among the new ones, 135 have been home-quarantined in Chapainawagonj, 127 in Naogaon, eight in Natore, 66 in Joypurhat, 16 in Bogura, 19 in Sirajganj and 39 in Pabna districts.
Dr Gopen Acharya said a total of 108 confirmed patients for COVID-19 are undergoing treatment in corona units while 192 others in isolation units of different hospitals and another 133 were released.
He added that utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine as it is being adjudged as an important means of containing the community transmission of the virus.
The district-wise break-up of detected COVID-19 patients now stands at 15 in Rajshahi, two in Chapainawabganj, 17 in Naogaon, nine in Natore, 32 in Joypurhat, 21 in Bogura, two in Sirajgonj and ten in Pabna districts.
Following confirmation of Covid-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons at different areas in the division were placed on lockdown.
Dr Gopen said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, are being brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home quarantine so that the virus cannot spread further.
On the other hand, 38,281 personal protective equipment (PPE) were distributed among the frontline healthcare workforces to handle the COVID-19 pandemic through protecting them from the virus infection in the division. There are 21,400 more PPEs in stock for distribution.
A total of 808 doctors and 1,512 nurses are working in 172 public and private hospitals in the division. Around 1,888 beds, out of total 4,149, were already prepared for treatment of the possible COVID-19 infected patients.
There are arrangements of 220 beds in isolation units here and 17 ambulances for the purpose of emergency transporting and treatment of the infected patients.
Meanwhile, the civil administration, armed forces and law-enforcement agencies remained active to deal with the adverse situation through enforcing the restrictive measures.
