7-story building leans in Jatrabarhi

Residents of a seven-storey building in Dhalpur Lichubagan area of Dhaka’s Jatrabarhi have been evacuated after it tilted.

“We sent our people to the site when we heard on Friday morning that a building had tilted at 35/5 Lichubagan,” Shahzadi Sultana, in charge of Fire Services Control Room, told bdnews24.com.

The firefighters urged the residents to leave the building after inspecting site around 8:30am. They were moved away under police escort.

Jatrabarhi police Sub Inspector Md Shahjahan said, “Rajuk officials have come to the spot. Work is on to find out why the building tilted.”

On Apr 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake had devastated Nepal, claiming more than 6,200 lives. The tremors also hit Bangladesh causing walls to collapse and a number of building in Dhaka and Sylhet to develop cracks.
