7,197 people infected by COVID-19 in Rangpur division

Rangpur, Aug 8: The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases jumped to 7,197 as 157 new infected patients were reported in a day after testing 470 samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Friday. “The COVID-19 infection continues rising following a limited scale community transmission of the lethal virus in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told journalists Saturday.
“The district-wise break-up of the total infected patients now stands at 1,844 in Rangpur, 383 in Panchagarh, 693 in Nilphamari, 458 in Lalmonirhat,
578 in Kurigram, 491 in Thakurgaon, 2,037 in Dinajpur and 713 in Gaibandha,” he said.
Since the beginning, a total of 43,384 collected samples of Rangpurdivision were tested till Friday night, and of them, 7,197 were found COVID-
19 positive with an average infection rate of around 16.59 percent in the division.
“At the same time, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 5,109 with the healing of 59 more people on Friday at the recovery rate of about 70.99 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
Among the 5,109 recovered patients, 1,520 of Rangpur, 252 of Panchagarh,634 of Nilphamari, 316 of Lalmonirhat, 313 of Kurigram, 274 of Thakurgaon, 1,400 of Dinajpur and 400 of Gaibandha districts.
Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the number of total fatalities rose to 123 in the division with one more death from Panchagarh reported on Friday.
The district-wise break-up of the fatalities now stands at 32 in Rangpur, 42 in Dinajpur, 12 in Gaibandha, nine each in Nilphamari and Kurigram, eight each in Thakurgaon and Panchagarh and three in Lalmonirhat.
“The average casualty rate among all 7,197 COVID-19 positive cases now stands at over 1.70 percent in the division,” Dr. Khan said.
Among the total 7,197 COVID-19 infected patients, 283 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 5,109 patients and 123 deaths while 1,682 remaining in home isolations in the division.
During the last 24 hours, till 8 am Saturday, 479 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 336 others released in the division.
Since the beginning, a total of 63,906 people of the division were put in quarantines and of them, 59,013 released and 4,893 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines.
Currently, the government hospitals and health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to provide treatments to the infected patients and face the situation in the division.
“We’ve got a capacity of 2,552 beds at 25 quarantine and isolation centres and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two hospitals in Rangpur and Dinajpur to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients under the division,” Dr. Khan added.
Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said every person should abide by health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.
