8 BNP lawyers get advance bails in sabotage case

Dhaka, Sept 17 (UNB) – The High Court (HC) here on Monday granted advance bail to 8 BNP-affiliated lawyers, including Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, in a sabotage case.

A bench with Justice Md Habibul Goni and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order as they sought bail before the court. The police now cannot place them under arrest before submitting a report.

The others lawyers are Advocate Abdur Rezak Khan, former minister Aminul Haque, former minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Sanaullah Miah, former minister Toimur Alam Khandakar, Advocate Akhteruzzaman, and Taherul Islam Touhid.

A total of 18 separate cases were filed against 59 BNP leaders and activists, in cases ranging from cocktail attacks to multiple instances of obstructing police in the line of duty, as the party demonstrated across the city demanding the release of their chairperson Khaleda Zia on Saturday.

Seven of the cases were filed with Adabar Police Station, three each at Paltan, Motijheel and Rupganj stations, and one each at Khilgaon and Fatullah stations.
