800 Khulna City cleaners ready for cleaning animal wastes

Khulna, July 25: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has kept ready 800 cleaners for cleaning sacrificial animal wastes in city areas on the day of Eid-ul-Azha.“The cleaning activities will start from morning on the Eid day and it will continue next 12 hours and they will clean up the entire city’s wastes”, said Chief Waste Management Officer of KCC Md. Abdul Aziz.
He said, last year, KCC has a record of removing all sacrificial animal wastes from the city’s different areas by 8 pm on Eid day.
On the day of Eid-ul-Azha, the cleaners will start their work from 11am for collecting wastes from the slaughterhouse of the sacrificial animal designated by the KCC 31 wards, he added.
Councilors, secretaries and conservancy supervisors of each ward will supervise these matters in their respective wards.
Besides, due to the COVID – 19 pandemic situation KCC has earmarked 140 spots in all 31 wards in city for slaughtering sacrificial animals on the day of holy Eid-ul-Azha.
The designated slaughtering grounds will have butchers, cleaners and relevant helping staff and an ‘Imam’ to conduct the slaughtering the sacrificial animals on Eid day.
A campaign to this effect will begin before seven days of the Eid-ul-Azha to raise awareness on slaughtering sacrificial animals in the designated spots.
Chairman of KCC’s waste management standing committee and 13th ward councilor SM Khurshid Ahmed Tona said, as like previous years, KCC’s cleaners will be on the ground to collect wastes on Eid day.
He said, a total of 175 butchers from different Madrasas will be engaged for slaughtering the animals in 140 spots on Eid day.
He urged the city dwellers to slaughter their sacrificial animals at KCC identified slaughtering spots in line with health safety guidelines and other rules, set by the government.
