914 policemen Coronavirus infected in Bangladesh

Dhaka, May 04 – Altogether 914 members of Bangladesh Police were infected with coronavirus until Monday. Among them, 449 are from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) alone, sources at Police Headquarters told UNB.
Besides, five members of the law enforcement died of COVID-19, sources said.
Currently, 1,250 policemen are in quarantine while 315 are being treated at isolation units.
Besides, 58 patients made full recovery, the sources said.
Members of Bangladesh Police, Armed forces, and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), along with other agencies have been jointly working to ensure social distancing across the country.
As the number of infected police personnel increased, the PHQ asked its members to ensure their own protection while performing duties during this pandemic.
Bangladesh has so far reported 10,143 coronavirus cases and 182 deaths.
The country reported its highest daily new coronavirus cases on Monday with the detection of 688 patients.
Meanwhile, a total of 565 physicians were also infected with coronavirus while treating patients as of Monday, said Bangladesh Doctors Foundation (BDF), a forum of physicians.
As the situation is worsening in the country, the government has extended the general holidays until May 16 to curb the transmission of coronavirus. – UNB
