Dhaka – Police have arrested nine people so far in connection with the rampage on a number of Hindu temples and houses in Brahmanbaria district following the alleged Facebook post by a Hindu youth allegedly humiliating the holy Kaaba, the most sacred place to Muslims.
Police sources said no new cases had been filed except the two cases on Monday against 1000-1200 unknown persons.Brahmanbaria police officers said they have collected all the video footages from journalists and mobile phones of other persons to look into the vandalism incident on temples and houses of the residents in Haripur union of Nasirnagar upazila in the district.
“No new cases have been filed except the two on Monday. We have arrested nine people so far. More cases will be filed for each incident,” Assistant Superintendent of Brahmanbaria (Sadar Circle) Abdul Karim told The Independent yesterday.
“We have collected the video footages from journalists and other persons of their mobile sets. We will now investigate the matter following the footages,” he added.
Besides, the district police administration dole out Tk 5000 for each affected family.
“We have distributed Tk 5000 to 27 affected families and authorities of nine temples. District police will provide money to the affected families if there is any,” Abdul Karim said.
Police said law enforcers are still deployed at different strategic points to fend of any further deterioration of law and order.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the ruling party Awami League led by party organization secretary Enamul Haq Shamim visited the Nasirnagar upazila of the district.
They talked to the affected families and assured them to ensure justice for them.
“The perpetrators will not be spared for the attack on Hindu community. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is closely following the developments of the incident. She has instructed to take stern steps so that no culprits can be spared,” Enamul Haq told the journalists.
He also said that none will be allowed to destabilise the communal harmony which will be maintained at any cost.
