Hearing against 74 BNP men on vandalism, arson case

Dhaka-A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred the hearing to April 5 of 2017 in the case filed against BNP Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 73 others for obstructing police from discharging their duties and alleged attempt to murder.Magistrate Ali Masud Shaikh of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka fixed the new date after hearing on the time petition filed on behalf of the accused. Earlier, on September 9, Sunday was fixed to record the depositions of the witnesses. Before that, on the same day, the court framed charges against the accused and set the date for hearing in the case.
On December 9, 2012, SI Abu Taher Bhuiyan of Paltan Police Station of the city, filed the case against the accused on the charges of vandalism and arson attack in Paltan area. Earlier, a group of leaders and activists of BNP-led 18 party alliance brought out a procession and at a point they allegedly assaulted police and prevented them from discharging their duties during a blockade programme in front of Capital Hotel of the area. The accused allegedly blasted nine crude bombs that caused injuries to several policemen. -Special Correspondent
