Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday said the government is working relentlessly to attain the challenge of ensuring quality education in the country.
“It is not possible to go ahead smoothly with traditional education. We need to acquire quality education of world standard,” he said speaking as chief guest at the golden jubilee function at Shiddheshwari Girls’ College in the city.
Held on the college premises, the function was presided over by Shiddheshwari Girls’ College Governing Body President and Education Ministry Joint Secretary AS Mahmud.College governing body member Golam Dastagir Gazi, MP, addressed the function as special guest while Principal Prof. Kaniz Mahmuda Aktar delivered the address of welcome.
The meritorious students of the college were presented with crests in the function.
The education minister said the government has been distributing free textbooks among the students of up to the secondary level since 2010.
This year, the government is printing 36,21,82,245 copies of textbooks for the purpose and books have already reached almost all the schools, he said,adding that like the previous years, textbook festival will be celebrated on January 1, 2017.
He urged the teachers to devote themselves in grooming their students as good human being.
Besides education, the minister highlighted the government’s success in power sector and hoped that the country would be able to generate 24,000 megawatt of electricity by 2021.
Nahid said the government has made a remarkable progress in materializing the dream of building ‘Digital Bangladesh.’ With sincere initiative of the government, the country has also attained self-sufficiency in food.
The education minister said an eight-storey building will be constructed at Shiddheshwari Girls’ College at a cost of Taka 6 crore. The building will have 24 classrooms and an ICT laboratory, he added, reports BSS.
