Sunny secures bail in another case

Dhaka The Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Thursday granted one month’s ad-interim bail to national cricketer Arafat Sunny in a case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. However, Sunny can not walk out as he is yet tosecure bail in the case filed under the ICT Act.Judge Mohamamd Quamrul Islam Molla of the court allowed the bail yesterday (Thursday) considering a petition filed by the cricketer’s lawyer.
Earlier, on February 1, Nasrin Sultana, who claims herself as cricketer Sunny's wife, lodged the case with the Women Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Court-4 of Dhaka against Sunny and his mother Nargis Akter.
Recording Nasrin's statement, Judge SM Rezanur Rahman of the court directed the Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station to submit a report after investigation.
According to the statement, Sunny's mother Nargis Akter with some persons beat up Nasrin on a road near Mohammadpur Police Station.
Besides, two more cases were filed against Sunny and his mother on the charge of demanding Tk 20 lakh as dowry and another case was lodged under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on January 23 and January 22, respectively.
On January 22, Arafat Sunny was arrested from Aminbazar area of the capital in the case filed under the ICT Act and on February 15, the Cyber Crime Tribunal (Bangladesh) rejected his bail plea. – Special Correspondent
