Five dead as trawler with 100 passengers capsizes in BD

Dhaka – Fiver bodies have been recovered early Tuesday as a passenger trawler carrying about 100 persons capsized in river Panguchi in Bagherhat district on the southwestern part of Bangladesh.According to an alert issued by a local television centre search for missing passengers are on. It is yet to be clear how the accident occured. The weather over Bangladesh has remained unpredictable for the last few days marked by occasional localised storms felling houses and trees.
The sea has been rough for about a week, according to reports appearing in different newspaperes and news agencies.
Bagerhat, located on the southwestern fringe of Bangladesh is close to the Sunderbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world and the World heritage site for mankind.
UNB added: At least three of the dead were women as the trawler, carrying some 100 passengers, capsized in the Panguchi River in Morelganj upazila on Tuesday morning.
Md Rashedul Alam, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station, said the trawler sank in the river around 10:30 am while heading towards Purano thana ghat from Srombaria.
Later, Coast Guard members and police retrieved three bodies from the river. The number of missing people and the identities of the deceased could not yet be known. – GreenWatch Dhaka News Desk
