Dhaka – Mashrafe Bin Mortaza brought the first breakthrough for Bangladesh by sending English opener Jason Roy back to the pavilion when the hosts were at 6 in 2.3 overs stand in the 8th ICC Champions Trophy opener at the Kennington Oval in London on Thursday.Skipper Mashrafe picked up Roy in the 3rd ball of his 2nd over when the English opener tried to play a scoop, but found short fine leg. Mustafizur Rahman took the ball above his head on the edge of the circle by an excellent leaping attempt.Joe Root came to pair Alex Hales in the 2nd wicket and the duo was bating on 14 and 30 when England were at 45/1 in 9 overs.Earlier, dashing opener Tamim Iqbal’s century of 128 runs helped Bangladesh post a target of 306 runs against England.Sent in to bat first, Bangladesh collected 305 for 6 in 50 overs where Mushfiqur Rahim was another notable scorer with a half century of 79 runs.Tamim shared a partnership figure of 152 in 23.4 overs Mushfiqur in the 3rd wicket after sharing another partnership figure of 56 in 12 overs with Soumya Sarkar in the opening stand.Tamim played an innings of 142 balls to fire 12 boundaries and three over boundaries before being caught behind by Jos Buttler off Liam Plunkett, to depart from the 3rd pair which started from 95/2 in 19.2 overs and ended up at 261/3 in 44.3 overs.Mushfiq was caught by Alex Hales off Liam Plunkett at 261/4 in 44.4 overs, after facing 72 balls to fire eight boundaries.To complete his 9th ODI century which is 2nd against England, Tamim fired 11 boundaries and one over boundary off 124 balls to reach 100 runs. He touched the magic figure by taking a single off Moeen Ali’s delivery in the 39 overs when the team collection was 214 for 2 wickets.Soumya was departed from crease after playing an innings of 28 off 34 balls, including four boundaries and one over boundaries before being caught by substitute fielder JM Bairstow off Ben Stokes’s last ball of 4th overs. After Soumya, Imrul Kayes came to pair Tamim, but Kayes (19 off 20b; 3×4) failed to stay long in the 2nd stand as he was caught by Mark Wood off Liam Plunkett at 95/2 in 19.2 overs.Sabbir Rahman (24 off 15b; 3×4) and Shakib Al hasan(10 off 8b; 2×4) were the other double figure scorers for Bangladesh.Liam Plunkett captured four wickets for 59 runs in 10 overs.
