Dhaka – At least 95.3 percent applicants have got chance to different colleges – government and non-government – in the first merit list published Monday. This year over 14 lakh (1.4 million) students passed in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations under the ten education boards.
Inter-Education Board Coordination Sub-Committee on Monday published the first merit list of the applicants who would take admission in different colleges both government and non-government across the country.
The result was published at 12:01 am on Monday as per the previous announcement, Dhaka Education Board college inspector Ashfaqus Salehin said.
He said 12,49,848 applicants have been selected in the first merit list out of the total 13,09,000 applicants. The rest of the applicants would be selected in the second and third merit list on June 13 and June 18 respectively.
The result was published on the website http://www.xiclassadmission.gov.bd/ and the applicants got the result through mobile SMS.
The students who would be selected in the first merit list would have to make the primary confirmation of admission for the specific college by sending the board registration fee Tk 185 using Teletalk, Surecash or Rocket services by June 8.
If any student does not confirm the admission by sending the registration, the application would be cancelled automatically.
This year a total of 14,31,722 students passed in the secondary school certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations but at least 1,27,722 students did not apply for the college admission yet.
The student who did not apply yet for college admission will also get opportunity for the application.
Dhaka education board sources said there are 28,62,009 seats under 9,083 colleges, Madarasahs and Technical colleges under the ten education board across the country.
If the total students 14,31,722 take admission in these educational institutions, there would be 14,30,287 seats would remain vacant.
Under Dhaka board there are 5,55,449 seats in 1236 colleges, under Comilla board there are 1,73,060 seats in 381 colleges, under Sylhet board there are 1,23,519 seats in 282 colleges, under Jessore board there are 2,88,537 seats in 578 colleges, under Dinajpur board there are 3,06,620 seats in 663 colleges, under Barisal Board there are 3,06,620 seats in 330 colleges, under Rajshahi board there are 3,42,970 seats in 781 colleges, under Chittagong board there are 1,29,070 seats in 239 colleges, under madrasah board there are 5,85,900 seats in 2736 Madrasahs and under technical education board there are 2,18,444 seats in 1857 technical colleges, Dhaka board sources said.
Dhaka education board sources said if any colleges fail to admit students, actions are taken against them.
“Students generally prefer to take admission to the better colleges. As a result the new colleges fail to draw students. Then the seats remain vacant and the colleges do not run,” Dhaka Education Board college inspector Ashfaqus Salehin told The Independent yesterday.
He also said every year the registration of some colleges are cancelled for the failure of admitting any students or there are given ultimatum with another chance.
“This year too we will see which colleges have failed to draw students. Then measures would be taken against them after considering various matters,” he added. – Staff Reporter
