Local community police detected high presence of formalin in the
seasonal fruits put for sale at different shops in the city on
Tuesday.
A team of Narayanganj Community Police conducted a drive with formalin
detector machine at all the fruit shops in No 2 Rail Gate area of the
city and found all seasonal fruits there mixed with formalin.
The team did not fine any shop owners as no magistrate accompanied
them, but it warned the shop owners verbally.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Manjur Quader of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police
Station and general secretary Saiduzzaman of the community police said
they have been conducting drive frequently after getting formalin
detector machine.
They conducted drive at 20 seasonal fruit shops in the city in the
afternoon. Of the seasonal fruits, formalin presence was found high
especially in jackfruit, which is very detrimental to heath.
