The local administration has imposed section 144 at Pathan Bazar in
Matlab (North) upazila as two factions of BNP arranged iftar party at
the same place on Friday.
The restriction will remain in force from Friday morning till midnight.
Locals said two BNP leaders–Mohammad Nurul Huda and Dr Jalaluddin–
arranged iftar party on the premises of Pathan Bazar Abidia High
School for Friday evening.
The announcement of the two groups’ separate programmes sparked
tension in the area.
Apprehending trouble, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Ali Mohammad Sajjad
Hossain slapped the restriction in order to maintain law and order.
