BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Tuesday reiterated the next polls must be held under a non-party government, neither under Awami League nor incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.“The government knows it well the people of the country will dump them with hatred if the polls are held under a caretaker government. So, the government is desperate to hold the election under them,” she said.
Khaleda said this in her brief speech prior to an iftar party. Bangladesh Sammilitto Peshajibi Parishad, a pro-BNP professional body, organised the iftar on the premises of Parliament Members Club’s LD Bhaban.
Claiming that the cabinet has decided that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will head the election time-interim government, Khaleda said, “We don’t accept this decision.”
Turning to the professionals, the former premier said, “You know it well the country is passing through a critical time. It’s the duty of every citizen to save the country from the present repressive regime.”
Saying that her party would wage a movement to realise its demand after Eid-ul-Fitr, Khaleda urged all to take part in the movement unitedly.
